In the next twenty years many things will change. By the year 2038, the advancements of today will go out of fashion and new developments will lead the way. Technology and computer science will continue to grow in importance in the workplace and educational settings, while a familiarity with these will become an expectation.

Twenty years ago, in the year 1998, Apple released the first iMac. It was an all-in-one desktop computer that has paved the way for technology. Since then, technology has expanded to include touch screen laptops, powerful handheld devices, and some of the fastest processing machines yet. As the field of computer science developed, these devices began to play a larger role. Slowly, computers infiltrated large corporations and universities. Now in most every educational system, information is being distributed digitally. Research and assignments are conducted using an online database system. Most families or students themselves own a computer. Workplaces expect a familiarity with computer operating systems.

In the future, familiarity with the properties of the computer will be an integral part of education. Being accustomed to the parts of the computer's hardware and software will be essential. The more software that students are familiar with, the more efficient and well-rounded they will become. In twenty years, it is likely that there will be new ways to access this information. In the past it has moved from computers in universities to wireless handheld smartphones, and in another twenty years, it is likely that it will be accessible in virtual reality or interactive surfaces.

The advancement in the distribution of virtual information coupled with an increase in processing power will be one of the greatest developments in 2038. However it evolves, it is important that the education systems remains at the forefront, empowering students to become familiar with these new developments. This will give each student the greatest opportunity to be successful.
