The Power of Art by Jhoniq - August 2016 Scholarship Essay

Every single student has gone through the struggle of finding a subject that they love to do. Some people enjoy writing or reading, so English class comes naturally to them as a form of expression. For me the subject that I learned the most from in high school was art.

I was a very shy student in high school so learning to express myself was a very hard thing to do. During my freshman year I took an entry level art class and soon fell in love with every aspect art had to offer. Each year I took a different area of art class such as painting, jewelry, and ceramics.

Finding this love for art truly made me a more expressive and open minded student for all other subjects. Art taught me how to be more creative in my layouts for all of the different assignments I had to do. For posters and even writing assignments I learned how to think-outside-of-the-box with my planning strategies and execution. The observation of all the minor details and even the abstract ones, really helped round me as a student. I am thankful that I have found an academic subject that has not only made me a better student but also a more expressive individual overall.
