Leaders Versus Losers, Who Will Carry Our Nation Into The Future by Jfrica - January 2021 Scholarship Essay

It is a very special gift to have an education. A gift that takes a lot of time, effort, and determination. An education doesn't just come in a cereal box, only those who put an effort into their education will receive their education. So with that being said, in my opinion education is a privilege instead of a right. Some may disagree, but just think about our youth today. Will they grow to be contributors to society, or will they bring nothing but negativity to our nation. We need to take these thoughts into consideration. Who is going to be our president however many years from now or who will be our future senators and representatives? What kind of morals will they stand on or are they educated enough about our nation's government to run it the correct way? You might ask "What does any of this have to do with the question?" Well it all simply comes down to the choices we all make as individuals.

What is something that a lot of young people struggle with? Peer pressure. Young people tend to do things that are unethical just to fit in or be "cool". Skipping class versus attending class, or going out to the parties versus staying in and doing homework some nights for example. Also not paying attention in class would go along with peer pressure. Trying to be the "class clown" or not listening when the teacher is giving instructions. Another would be that they're scared of being judged. As in a student not understanding a subject, and instead of saying they're confused or asking for extra help, they just sit there clueless. These are situations that our youth will be put in throughout their lives, and they are the ones who will decide what choices they're going to make and which path they're going to take

In conclusion, I would say that education is a privilege because it is our choice whether we pursue it or ignore it.
