Bai Ganyo by jetmira - July 2013 Scholarship Essay
My freshman year at the University of Arizona, while taking a slovic study class, i happened to read a book about that not only containing history, but also a message to what kind of people are out there, and how to treat one another, because it can be a significant effect on the future. The book Bai Ganyo; incredible Tales of Modern Bulgarian by Aleko Kanstantinov was a book that it was the most diverse book i read, that taught me not only about a particular region; like the Balkans; however, about society, the world, understanding life will bring us down, and keeping your identity is the key to revealing not only who you are, but also revealing that one day it will pay back for standing up for who you are. Bai Ganyo, a funny, unintelligent, and very patriotic Bulgarian man. His stories were told by different cultures that had experience with him, during his world adventure. He seemed to stand up for who he was, and didn't care if others got offended or that they did not want to help him, he was a very go with the flow man, but always clinging to the past. The modern society always put him down. He never adopted, he kept traveling and taking risks, to see how people can differentiate. Towards the end of the book while making decisions with his diverse fellows how to make money and be famous in publishing something, the idea he came up with, everyone made fun of; until he became known, intellegent, and his true colors revealed. Fellows he meet throughout his journey needed help, each one of them, wanting something, if it meant just an advise from Bai Ganyo, he treated them the same as they treated him, the ones that stood by, did everything he could, and the ones that did not, well, didn't do much, he would sometimes put them down.
