Step into my Shoes by Jessica - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to help people. My dream is to join the United States Air Force in the Security Forces (USAF), which is equivalent to a cop in the civilian world. I learned first hand about what it takes to be in the Air Force Since my dad and uncle served: not just the skills that it the trials that you go through but how it shapes you into being a leader and that you shouldn’t take things for granted. While I am primarily interested in interested in taking Marketing Manager and Business Law subjects.

I want to be taught marketing in a way that I can solve any problem no matter how difficult or easy it is. My future academic goals are getting into college, taking core classes to help prepare me for my career, and join The Reserve Officers Training Camp (ROTC). My dancing after school would help to get on that path because it teaches me how to communicate with people, give and take instructions.

Studying Honors Economics, I can already see the utility of taking of Business Law because it is the basis of all Business careers. Business is applied everyday because when a person buys a item or good it goes it the firms and they use it to buy supplies; the cycle repeats itself every time a person buys something. Having a degree in Business would allow me to advance in my military career because you're able to earn more money and I could help my mom pay off her bills, so she won’t have to come home worried anymore. Furthermore, a degree would make my training path different because I went to college to study for my career field.

Having getting into college, I’ll be able to utilize the means of my degree and using the skills into my career by being a leader and commanding my airmen in the right direction to success. I always had a passion to serve for this country when I was younger seeing my uncle in his uniform and how happy it makes him to know that he is doing what he loves. I guess it rubbed off on me. I love being in the air and flying over buildings seeing the beautiful scenery below the clouds.

Dancing requires a lot of technique and structure in order to do pirouettes and walkovers. Dancing on a team requires participation not from one person but from everybody to make it strong. I’ve learned to accept critiques and bruises over the years because not everyone is going to be nice to you. Learning structure is very important in the military because you stay focused and on task to what you are suppose to be doing.

Joining the military would make me feel accomplished because I would feel honored to have helped citizens carry on throughout their day without having to live in fear. Knowing that people will be able to go to bed and not worry will be my future career in the USAF because my fellow airmen and I will keep the skies safe from threats. To me the military is more than fighting it is about protecting what you love and making a difference in people’s lives- helping them. The careers in the military are endless but it’s what you do with your passion in life that makes a difference. This is my passion.
