Your Right to Live by Jessica - May 2025 Scholarship Essay

I believe that every human being has their right to a basic standard of living. Regardless of racial, ethnic, religious, or economic backgrounds, every person should have their most basic needs met. With all the time and money in the world, I would work to build a safe home for everyone. I would also invest my money into buying food for those who are not able to afford it, as eating is a basic need for survival. Lastly, I would focus on giving people free access to healthcare and education.

Assuming that all people in the world had their needs met at a foundational level, I believe that there would be less conflict. While some conflict is inevitable, providing every person with what is necessary would alleviate some of the biggest stressors in most people’s lives. The greed and hunger for money would die down as people don’t have to worry about paying off medical bills or student debt. With adequate food in their possession, people would display more kindness and willingness to share.

Overall, I would focus on giving every person a basic standard of living because it would take many people out of the scarcity mindset. It brings people closer to equality and improves overall quality of life. Most importantly, it is their human right to live.
