Don't Blink by Jessica - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

One question almost all graduating high school seniors are asked is, "What advice would you give to the incoming freshmen next year". As stereotypical as it may be "Don't Blink" is the best advice to give any incoming freshmen. Many may roll their eyes hearing this, but when they get to their senior year they will finally understand.

Looking back now, my high school years went by too quickly. I wish someone would have really told me just how fast it would go by, and to not take any day for granted. Last Friday, I attended my last football game as a student at Sherman E Burroughs High School. As a freshman I never realized how much of an impact those Friday nights would have. I will forever remember sitting with all my friends cheering on our team, on our field, under those Friday night lights.

Too many people spend their high school career wishing it away, instead of taking it in. High school goes by too quickly to only think about the future. One day when they are waiting at the side of the stage for their named to be called so they can get their degree, they will finally understand. All those people smiling up at you and cheering will no longer be there everyday. The truth is most people you are friends with in high school; you will never talk to again when it's all over. Take advantage of these people now; of all the parties, games, dances and even classes that you have because before you know it, it's gone.
