Positivity: The Environment Providing Endless Opportunities by Jessica - October 2014 Scholarship Essay
A positive environment in a classroom is essential for a student’s learning. When students are in a positive environment, they become a happier person with optimism which ultimately makes them more successful in their learning. This is because the students are thinking more positively so if they have trouble in a subject, they are more willing to work harder in it knowing that in the end it will all be worth it. However, a student in a negative environment would rather just give up on their learning thinking that there is not a point in it. The elements that make up a positive classroom environment are support, respect, and helpfulness.
First, in any activity that a person is doing, support is always needed. Support helps a person to keep up their work. Whenever he/she starts to fall back, there is always somebody there to help boost his/her confidence making him/her work even harder at the task. This support provides the optimistic view that the person can be successful.
Second, for many people, in order to gain respect one must give respect. Therefore, if a teacher is not providing respect to the students, the students are not going to respect the teacher. The students will not try hard in the class and not learn if the teacher is not respectful. This is because the students do not feel that there is not a point in all the effort that they are doing.
Third, a student with the most helpful opportunities, the better in classes he/she will do. Ultimately, the teacher needs to be able to provide times outside of the classroom to help students. This provides an opportunity for students to ask the teacher any questions they may have and receive a better understanding of the class. With this better understanding, students are able to apply it and ultimately get better grades and use it in real-life situations.
In conclusion, students get the most out of a classroom if the classroom contains support, respect, and helpfulness. This will allow students to work under a positive environment and use this experience for the workforce.
