“Keep an open mind while staying humble” - #classof2023 #collegeistheway by Jessica - November 2018 Scholarship Essay

What does this say about me? Well, if I have learned anything from my twelve years of school, it is that when I think about continuing my education, I will keep an open mind to the possibilities as this will be the key to my success in life. I believe that having an open-mind doesn't mean you should agree with every new idea you hear. It means that you are ready and able to listen and consider many different viewpoints and perspectives, which is going to be important not only while attending college but in life as I will deal and interact with a variety of individuals.
I recently read the following; "Being humble means recognizing that we are not on earth to see how important we can become, but to see how much difference we can make in the lives of others" - Gordon B. Hinkley. This quote has helped me see how important it is to realize that we are all in this world to do something, not just to sit around and wait for something to happen or downgrade something we have yet to experience. We should take advantage of the opportunity to attend college and take initiative to see what it has to offer, both academically and socially. At least, this is what I plan to do when I attend college in the Fall of 2019.
