Everyone is always wanting to submit a funny of inspirational quote to catch to attention of their peers, but isn't a senior quote supposed to be about the person who submitted it? I say that seniors should stop caring about what their peers think and choose whatever makes them feel happy. Therefore, my quote for my school’s yearbook will be from my favorite book, Legend, by Marie Lu: “Each day means a new twenty-four hours. Each day means everything’s possible again. You live in the moment, you die in the moment, you take it all one day at a time… You try to walk in the light.”
This quote is said by a boy who is a criminal in his country. He is telling the girl he loves why he chose to be called Day. He says it is because each day means that you can start over again; a fresh start where everything is possible, and who you were yesterday is not who you are today. He also says that day is the light in the world: goodness, not bad, and that is exactly what he wants to be. This is why the quote speaks to me. It is Day’s interpretation of the word day as being goodness, beginning, and light that has made me believe that every day is as such. It has been my inspiration to become a better person, and my guide to take every day in stride and live in the moment.
The quote also speaks to me because of the way that Day composes his explanation of why he chose his name. He doesn’t just flat out say that he chose it because every day is a new beginning; he tells it like a story. A story that needs to be told. He tells this in such a way that conveys the deep, inspirational name that he believes it to be. This has taught me that life is story that demands to be told, and only you have the words to tell it. No one else is going to do it for you.
Hence, the quote from Marie Lu’s Legend would be my choice for my senior quote because it speaks to me with its beauty and inspiration, and it has taught me be a better person like Day wanted to be. It has also been my motivation to live in the moment, not the past, and to take every day in stride. I have also learned from this that life is a story that only you have the words to tell, and this quote is part of my story.
