What Thinking Outside the Box Means to Me by Jessica - October 2018 Scholarship Essay
What does ¨thinking outside the box¨ mean to you? Thinking outside the box to me means being different, creative, and standing out. To me, it also means not caring about how others perceive you and your way of thinking. Although there can be many ways of interpreting this quote the answer was simple for me because of the perspectives I had with this quote growing up and hearing it from different people.
Growing up I would always hear my mom say ¨think outside the box Jessica!¨ My mom is an artistic person who loves to make art and jewelry, and when I was younger I thought she meant she wanted me to be like her to be crafty and artistic. It wasn´t until I was older that I figured out what she meant. She did not mean it in a way to be like her, she meant don´t think or be like others. That I should make my own path and be different from others even her.
A lot of people also probably have heard the same quote in school as well. Hearing the same quote probably even has a distinct meaning to them. For me personally even hearing this quote at school gave it a completely different meaning than when my mom had said it. When a teacher says ¨think outside the box¨ to me I immediately try to think of ways I can be better and more creative with school. For example like when I get a project that requires the more then usual attention I try to ¨think outside of the box¨ to make my project go above the expectations.
Everyone has their own interpretation of the quote ¨think outside the box¨. My view of this quote has been through my mom and the various teachers who have told me this quote throughout my years of school. ¨Thinking outside the box¨ to me is being different, creative, and standing out from others.
