My Presidential Dinner by Jessica - October 2017 Scholarship Essay
Most presidents have done great things for our nation, but others not so much. Throughout my life, considering I’ve only lived through two (almost three) presidential terms, I would always choose to have dinner with Barack Obama.
The Obama administration has changed my life for the better, helping and protecting most of my family. The DACA program has helped my cousins to be able to come to the United States to escape the poverty and horrible crimes that are happening in Mexico. His immigration policies have not only helped my cousins and family members come to the United States, but the Obama administration did something more significant than that-- he made gay marriage legal in the United States. I remember the day they announced that gay marriage would be legal in all the fifty states, my oldest brother called and me and started to cry. “I never thought I would live to see the day where I can finally marry someone I love,” and that was the day I knew that this President did something good for this country. I cried, knowing my generation can be more accepting than others. Michelle Obama also has impacted me in many ways. She is a lady full of grace and love, and she is one of the best feminist icons. I strive to be just as educated as that woman.
In conclusion, with all the Presidents have been or will be, I would most likely always choose President Obama. He made history. By being the first Black president, by changing the immigration policies for all immigrants, and my giving the right to marry who you love.
