The Impact of Journalism on my Life by Jessica - September 2017 Scholarship Essay

It was sophomore year and I decided I wanted to try journalism. This is not usually a class I would lean towards but I thought I'd give it a try.
Usually, in English type classes, I can easily recieve a decent grade on essays, projects, ect. This class however, was different. I wrote my first essay, reread it multiple times, and had my parents read over it. When I got my grade back I wasn't too thrilled. The following day the class was told that we could make corrections if we didn't like our grades we had recieved. I decided to do the corrections and worked really hard to try to make my essay better. In the long run, I only got a slightly better grade. Being in the english elective taught me a lot about working hard in order to recieve the grade you want. If I didn't like the outcome of my grade, I learned to change it. It taught me a lot about education because I was able to learn to work harder in my classes.
This elective also taught me a lot about opinion. I learned that opinione better be supported because it's not a good argument if otherwise. The teacher would often question us in order to defend ourselves which taught me to stand up for what I believe in. Overall, taking Journalism as an elective taught me a lot that I can apply when furthering my education.
