AFJROTC and HS Education by Jerry - September 2017 Scholarship Essay

In the school I attended prior to Madison County High School, that of Jefferson High School, I was blessed with the ability to take AFJROTC under the at-the-time instructors Major Watson and Chief Willis. Under their wonderful guidance and teaching caliber, I was able to have a wonderful two years of JHS despite the problems that came to pass.

The problems in question are where AFJROTC comes into play in regards to my education. Due to a variety of circumstances, I was a very disliked individual by my peers, justifiably so, and the result of that was a lot of distance and artificial relationships, even within the Corps.. Regardless, it was through AFJROTC that despite personal circumstances, I was able to work together with others to accomplish a variety of tasks, and learned to be able to join with those that I may disagree with, or may not get along with, in order to fulfill the mission. This has been vital in my personal and academic life, being able to join forces with those who have opposing views in order to help us all to succeed academically, spiritually, and so forth. Without AFJROTC, while there might have been fewer problems, ultimately would have left me with no improvement, neither spiritually, nor mentally, nor physically. I will always be proud of the amazing GA20065 Corps. of Cadets, and look forward to their continuous coming out on top in whatever is thrown their way!

While this reasoning is one that is most likely heard time and time again, just with a different word or group of words, the point is still the same, and I shall stand by the words of this small essay. I have little good to say about my past, but AFJROTC provided me the necessary foundation for success, and I will be eternally grateful for it helping me in academics, my personal life, and my spiritual walk.
