Dear Varsity Tutors Scholarship Committee,

I am writing to apply for the Varsity Tutors College Scholarship Contest, an opportunity that would be instrumental in aiding my academic journey. My name is Jermiah Eleby, a first-time college student, keen to pursue a Nursing major at either Barry University, St Thomas University, or Florida Memorial University. I am excited, yet humbled by the chances and challenges that lay before me, knowing well that my aspiration is a great one.

In my years through high school, I dedicated myself to academic excellence, completing my studies with a GPA of 3.42. I learned early on that a sound mind requires an equally sound body, and thus I cultivated a deep interest in health and medicine. I chose pre-nursing and nursing as my prospective majors because of an innate desire to offer healthcare services to others and make a positive difference in society.

As an African American woman, I understand that my community faces unique health disparities. The importance of representation in the nursing field is something I have come to appreciate, as my ambition is to not only stand as a qualified nurse but also as a role model and advocate for my community. I want to strive to bridge the gap and ensure that equitable healthcare is accessible for all, despite their background or race. Applying these universal principles of care to my work will help make healthcare a right, not a privilege.

Preparing for a career in nursing requires resilience, compassion, dedication, great character, and most of all a love for serving people, and I am ready and willing to meet these expectations. I seek to combine my knowledge, passion, and commitment to learning in order to create innovative solutions to improve patient care, and I am confident a scholarship from Varsity Tutors will put me on the path towards realizing this dream.
