Cut out the Procrastination by Jeri - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

Being a high school senior, I figured that this school year would be very simple, and I would not have to worry about much. However, I was quickly proved wrong once my senior year finally began. Therefore, going into this new year I have discovered a simple way to make senior year that super fun and exciting year it is supposed to be. The answer to my problems is to simply cut out the procrastination.
Around the end of September, I received my acceptance letter to Tarleton State University. As many can imagine, I was (and still am) extremely excited and relieved. Well, I began to have the mindset that since I had already been accepted into college, then the rest of my year did not really matter, well boy was I wrong! I failed to remember that I am still enrolled in three online college classes, on top of my Advanced Placement classes on campus, and being on the varsity soccer team. Eventually everything began to snowball and I was immensely overwhelmed. The two week Christmas break made me realize how much simpler everything would be if I would just do all of my work and assignments early instead of waiting until the last minute like I had previously done. Even though I was accepted into my dream school, I still have to keep up my grades in order to graduate and maintain my rank.
Realizing all of this, I entered the new semester with a change of mind. This semester is more hectic than ever, so I know that it is extremely important to continue with my resolution to cut the procrastination. So far, it is definitely changing things. For example, I am on the varsity soccer team and we are out of town 2 of the 5 school days each week in January. In order to not fall behind, I ask my teachers for my work before I leave so that I have it completed when I return to class the following week. This way I am not attempting to finish the previous week’s work in class, falling even more behind because I would not be focusing on the new material that I am actually present for.
Procrastination is something that every student, and every person in general, suffers from. It can truly cause major problems such as stress and anxiety. Therefore, in order to prevent those problems, I have made a resolution to cut the procrastination this year in order to become the best student that I can possibly be and to finish out my fun senior year successfully.
