10 Years Past by Jeremiah - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

10 years is a long time. For the average high school senior, it’s over half as long as they’ve been alive. It’s hard for someone who has barely been around to the block to look forward that far and plan out their life, but many at least have a vague idea of what they want to be or where they want to go. Some see themselves heading down the path to college; others see themselves finding a blue collar job.
1 year from now I’ll be in college. 4 years from now, I’ll likely be starting my final semester and preparing to graduate. 7 years and maybe I’ll have found a nice cushy job with a startup and I’ll be coasting through life. 10 years and perhaps I’ll have found a family and settled down. I think that’s a nice endgoal: a quiet little family and a job that’s not too stressful yet brings home enough money to live comfortably.
The problem is getting there. I won’t be able to coast through life like I’ve coasted through high school. Luckily, college aims to prepare me for the real world. A good college will provide me the tools and skills to make a life for myself in the tough world we live in. Life is going to get a lot more difficult, and I’m ready. I want to see what the world has in store for me.
