How has informal education played a role in your academic success? by Jeremiah - June 2024 Scholarship Essay
I am big on education. It is essential to learn. To some, school is the only place a person can learn. On the other hand, there are plenty of opportunities to learn indirectly. Furthermore, these informal educational experiences can make all the difference in growing professionally or personally.
There are a few examples of my life that I can point to as important informal educational moments. Also, these moments proved pivotal for my progress and success. These experiences include interactions with adults. Observing and seeing how my parents, teachers, and coaches interact with the world shows me what priorities I need to focus on. Sometimes, this informal learning is trial and error. There have been times when I have approached a personal project, like training to try out for the basketball team. Although this did not have to do with my academics, I applied the training process to my academics. I learned that what you do off the court or outside the classroom best prepares you for success in school.
In the end, informal learning has helped me personally and in school. Applying principles and lessons that I learn daily through daily interactions provides insight into how to approach my academics. I will always maintain this view on life as I progress to college.
