It is NEVER too late! by JENNIFER - August 2024 Scholarship Essay

It is NEVER too late, I PROMISE!
I am a mother of two wonderful kids and I decided to go back to school to find MY NEXT BIG EDUCATIONAL GOAL. I am going back to school not only for my kids but for MYSELF!
I was a great student from elementary through high school. In the end of high school, life happened and lots of unwanted roller coasters came upon my path. I ended up blessed with a beautiful baby girl at the age of 20 and that was when I knew I had to get my life back together. I went to a community college in my hometown for my prerequisites, which took a couple of years. Everything was great until it was time to register for an Associates program. Of course, I was denied. I reached out to the school academic advisor to see where I went wrong. I retook some of my classes and reached all A's, then reapplied for the same program the next year. As a new mother to a toddler while doing my best, the second rejection was devastating. I did not want to give up so I asked my advisor what other options I can do to have a better chance at trying again next year. I was advised to get any healthcare continuing education certification, so while I was waiting for the next program acceptance to open, I graduated with my EKG certification which gave me an opening to work in the Hospital in Amarillo, TX. Although I did apply again for the third time, unfortunately I was denied again and my advisor recommended another program.
This denial times three was very discouraging but I was and always will be a firm believer in the phrase, "everything happens for a reason." This EKG certification opened doors in the medical field that I never imagine I would be. I moved up and up and up on the ladder of opportunities in the hospital. I ended up higher than I ever thought I could be. It was a success for me that I am forever thankful for.
Of course, every healthcare comes to a stopping top point of no growth without more education. I have decided to come back to school for more.
Now I am a mother of two and I want to be able to provide more. I was raised in a very low income household of 7 with the poverty lifestyle where all we had to eat was rice and vegetables if we were lucky but I would not change that for the world. It made me so humble and so much more motivated in my life to keep pushing and to never give up. That humbleness I instill in my kids and take that struggle to motivate me to be more of what I am for my kids and my future.
I wrote this to give anybody and everybody that is able to read my words in this essay, the strength to keep going and know that you can do more and you can achieve more.
