Studying by Jennifer - August 2013 Scholarship Essay

One of the best lessons I learned in class is about studying. The class was an anatomy class, but every now and then the professor would give little tips at the start of class on how to study for his tests. He reiterated how important it was to go over the material taught in class the day of in order to cement the material in the brain. He also talked about how using diagrams to learn the flow of ions in and out of the cells would help in understanding the ion channels. The diagrams, he assured, would help in other situations as well in understanding the flow of things in the body. This is one of the most interesting lessons because, while a lot of the teachers in high school tried to give tips on studying, he was the first to give tips on passing his class in particular. The studying tips he gave would most likely be useful in other classes as well, but the fact that the lesson was mostly geared to passing his class was interesting as well as the fact that he obviously really wanted his students to pass his class, even while knowing that most of the students would probably not take his advice on studying.
