Camera Rolling! by Jennifer - August 2022 Scholarship Essay

Going to school to study film is always interesting to me when I compare it with friends in fields like STEM. They're like "Oh I have this math assignment due tonight," and all I can say is I have a movie to make! It's awesome, don't get me wrong, but it makes me think of academic goals differently.
For this upcoming semester, I want to be able to say, "camera" and have someone answer "rolling". In film sets, usually, it's the director who yells out "camera" and the cinematography would confirm that it's working. This semester, my academic goal is to direct a short film that I wrote. I'm taking a class in the 400 level (upper course) about film production, where the entire semester is devoted to creating a short film with my classmates.
My goal is to have the confidence to walk in on the first day of class and show my professors and classmates my script and pitch my idea as a director. As an aspiring director it would be a great accomplishment for my portfolio, but also having the validation that I walked in and I did it is something I've wanted for a long time.
