My Advice to You, Young One by Jennifer - November 2014 Scholarship Essay
Dear incoming high school freshmen,
It is important that you start off your high school career strong. You want to make sure your grades are where they need to be at all times, because if you do not your grades will slip and your GPA will fall along with it. AP/honors classes always look good on your transcript and may even bring up your GPA, but if you cannot handle the work load, either drop the class as soon as you can, or find a way to manage your time better because it will have the counter effect.
Always do your homework. I could not express that enough. If the teacher says the homework is not due for a few more weeks, do it that night. This way your homework for that class will not accumulate and you will not be doing it all the day before it is due. If you do not understand something on your homework, go to tutorials immediately and ask for help (you would not be able to do this if you waited until the last minute).
You can never go wrong with understanding the material, so if there is something you do not understand, ask your teacher. Asking questions is the key to knowledge. If your teacher’s teaching style is different than your learning style, find a friend who knows the material and have regular study sessions, add more around finals time. This will help tremendously.
Sincerely,
A student who does not want you to make the same mistakes she did.
