The Weather on Earth by Jennifer - June 2014 Scholarship Essay
I have thought about this question on many occasions. It has kept me awake during many nights, has been my daydreaming escape, and has even motivated me to attempt it. I have read many books over the years; all different genres such as Argo, Twilight, The Help, and Doctor Sleep. Books are my hobby and my escape so of course I have thought of writing my own book. If I were to write a book it would be about global warming and where it has left people in the future.
It would be mostly fiction, but addressing a real and serious future problem on Earth. It would be similar to the zombie apocalypse books and movies, but the threat to the human race are the weather patterns and atmosphere on Earth, not the living dead. A specific group of humans that have survived thus far on Earth in the year 3000 will be tested mentally and physically as they attempt to find safe shelter, more survivors, and answers to what has happened on Earth. Before this, the government quit funding relief projects like the American Red Cross because they could not keep up with demand. Now with no funding or volunteers to help fix communities after tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, and the like, Earth has been left to absolute natural occurrences.
I would write my book about global warming because I have always loved Earth science and global warming has been a big topic. I would have to put a lot of research into this book, although it is fiction, and I enjoy research projects because I always learn something new and get to play detective. I would need to know all there is to know about global warming to create my own prediction of what Earth would be like if global warming was completely ignored. I also enjoy a good survival plot and an end of the world feel to a story. I want to write about global warming because I would hope it would entertain people and teach them something new about the Earth. I always watch the weather channel shows, am a huge fan of the Walking Dead and apocalyptic books and movies; it would only make sense for me to write my own apocalypse because it is one of my favorite story lines.
