All of your hard work has been leading to this moment. You walk across the stage and you know that this diploma you’ve just been handed is a symbol of your effort. You think to yourself that you did it. You finished your education. Well, I hate to break it to you, but your education isn’t finished. Your education will never be finished. To be successful in any career today you have to embrace the spirit of learning.

Today’s world is changing at an exponential rate. Every field from healthcare to technology to business and beyond is in a state of flux. Just a few years after you hold that diploma most of the facts and skills from your coursework will be outdated. Just think about how often they update those textbooks. Does all of this change mean that your education was worthless? Absolutely not.

The most important thing you gain from your education isn’t the knowledge of a single fact or figure. It isn’t the skill to use a certain program or tool. It’s the skill of learning itself. You need to learn how to learn. When the world swerves you need to to swerve with it. You need to be able to pick up on new trends and adapt to new information.

A true education is never be complete. Embrace a love of learning and you will be ready for whatever tomorrow brings.
