A Passion for Education. A Dream of the Future. by Jenna - July 2019 Scholarship Essay

I have a passion for education. To some, that may mean that I am ambitious. Others may say that makes me a nerd or a teacher’s pet. Either way, I know that the education I have received has helped to shape me into the person I am today and I hope the education I am striving toward will help to make me the person I have always wanted to be.
My passion for education has stemmed straight from my parents. My mom has always loved learning and my dad is a teacher. I have been an avid reader all my life, and I have always yearned to learn as much as I can. I used to get frustrated when I realized there are millions of books out there and plenty more being printed daily yet there is no way I could ever read them all. I was in the Extended Learning Program throughout elementary school. I begged my dad to print off logic puzzles for me. I advanced up a grade in math during my seventh-grade year and skipped Pre-Algebra. I took my first DMACC college course during my sophomore year. All my life, I have done all that I can so as to learn as much as possible.
I developed a passion for education. For many years, I was clueless about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I finally realized at the beginning of my junior year that I would never feel fulfilled unless I could help people have better lives every day. After plenty of research, I decided I want to be a Speech-Language Pathologist so as to improve the lives of children with special needs. In order to follow this dream, I must attend college and receive my master’s degree. When I graduate high school, I will be graduating with 30 DMACC credits. Taking these classes will eliminate my freshman year of college and help me to afford the other five years. Education means that I can follow my dream and fulfill my life by helping children every day. Without education, I would not be qualified to do this. Even if I had somehow come to the conclusion that I want to help people, without education, I would be unable to do much.
I have a passion for education. I have been shaped by my education. I pray that through the rest of my educational journey I will become a better person from it. I am blessed to have had the upbringing that I have had, and I have loved every moment of it.
