Math Teacher by Jenna - October 2016 Scholarship Essay
If the roles were reversed in school, I would definitely teach mathematics because it personally is my favorite subject. The class also just seems all-around the most interesting. I believe it would be a great opportunity to help more students learn the basics that they might one day put to use. It would also give me the chance to be creative in how I teach the curriculum as well. That way kids can engage in class more because they are experiencing school in a format that might actually interest them.
I personally adore math so much because it is universal, meaning no matter what language you primarily speak, the numbers and symbols translate the same way. For example, if a woman who normally spoke Mandarin wanted to answer an American, English-speaking boy's math homework question, she totally could. It would be the exact same question to her as it was to him. In addition, I would love for my math class to be the foundation for their life dealing with numbers and algorithms one day in the real world. Being able to help now will ultimately aid in the long-run of life and its everyday use of arithmetic- whether that be addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division.
