The little things by Jenna - April 2016 Scholarship Essay

One thing that I find the most important to future high school and middle school students even is the social aspects of these institutions. Children walk into high school and middle school wanting to be the best at everything. Whether that be school itself, sports, debate team, everyone feels the need to be better than their peers.

The main thing the people, at least where I've grown up, miss out on are friendships and the little things that matter. The amount of times I've heard of a friend having a breakdown do to stress from over exerting themselves in school would shock anyone. High school students don't realize that their is a world outside of their academic careers. I would tell any person in any grade below me that school is important but they are more important than that. Students need to take care of themselves and have fun while they still can. Students should be happy with who they are and their lives, and that is what matters the most, that is the advice that would make any student successful in their academic career. Finding a balance is the most necessary part of going to school. This is more than just being well rounded to look good for college applications, but being well rounded to be happy with one's self.

Every student should find something that truly makes them thrive. Whether that's being with friends, volunteering, playing sports, it does not matter but if the student does nothing but school they won't thrive in the ways that they should, the ways that they can. My advice would be to be happy with who you are and what you are doing in your life.
