deciding a major by Jeanette - April 2019 Scholarship Essay
“Oh no” is something that a lot of college students find themselves saying, whether they forgot to study for a quiz or they forgot about the school work due. For me, my “oh no” moment was and still is slightly bigger than that. Unlike most of my high school class, I had no idea what I wanted to do when I got to college. My life had always been so busy that I never really sat back and thought about what my future would hold.
My freshman year of college I took the time to take my general education classes so I could get an idea of some majors I would possibly be interested in. This did not work until the second semester. I was taking a class about interpersonal communications and I realized my passion for communication studies.
My panic through freshman year was finally put to rest. I consider this the most academically challenging thing that I have encountered because students are so rushed into deciding on what they want to do in life that they don’t stop to try things out. If I had not taken all of those classes I never would have found my major.
The reason that I am not saying I overcame it is that I don’t think that you can overcome a decision that could possibly change. Although I have declared my major I still do not know what I want to do with it and that's ok cause I still have time to learn.
