Medicinal Discovery by Jeanette - February 2019 Scholarship Essay
I’ve always wanted to go into medicine. For years and years I debated on what I wanted to do when I “grew up” and I always ended up going back to medicine. I’ve had thoughts about working in a lot of different areas as well. Becoming a physician’s assistant or a medical examiner or a fetal surgeon and many other things have crossed my mind. But, honestly, I have no clue what I want to do. All I know is that my dream job involves the complexity of human anatomy and helping others. My college plans will help me discover the career I’m meant for. The hands on experience and connections I will make will pave a path for me to do whatever job I love most.
Being able to experience a day in the shoes of a pediatric physician’s assistant or shadowing Dr. Werner Spitz is exactly what could show me what I may or may not love to do. Going to college will help me make those connections to be able to do that. My professors and advisors can help give me ways in to get hands on experience. Labs and classes will help reveal what material I am and am not passionate about. Connections with other like-minded students can help inspire me to find my true dream career.
Although I have no clue what my dream job is, I know going to college will help me discover it. The connections and experience I will gain can show me what job I am truly meant to do. Working with cadavers one day and kids the next is going to give me the hands on experience I need to find what sparks a fire in my soul, and getting my degree will keep the fire burning.
