What College Means To Me by Jayne - June 2013 Scholarship Essay

College means a way of advancing my career.  With career advancement there will be additional opportunities to step up and initiate or suggest much needed changes within the healthcare field with a goal of improving staff and patient satisfaction.  In recent years our society has seen many technology advancements leading us towards an electronic health record system.  With these advancements we are changing the way that we look and address patient care because prior method was to take the chart in the patient room and chart findings which took little time to complete.  Today we work in an environment that has moved from the paper charting to electronic charting taking away from real touching/assessing nursing and physician care.I find it difficult to believe that because these changes are happening and we need to adopt to them that care should be decreased secondary to an electronic environment.  So what does college mean to me?  It means an opportunity to move into a different level of management where I can do deeper dives into the nitty gritty of the problem to find a solution to reduce staff  and physician burden on documenting and increase the time so that patient healthcare is happening.  I dont profess to be the all mighty fixer but schooling opportunites have led me to running dual health information management departments in which I have had the opportunities to turn them from non-functioning departments to departments that function without my presence.  I love solving solutions and advancing my college degree will allow me more open avenues to deeper dive in to help streamline processes to allow more time for direct patient care.In my career I have met, trained and promoted many individuals who are currently successful in their job roles and I would love the opportunity to continue my degree so that I can continue to mentor others so that they will also be successful in their career goals.Thank you for this opportunity to apply for your scholarship.
