Creating a Positive World by Jaylynn - May 2025 Scholarship Essay

Hello, my name is Jaylynn Harris, I am currently a senior at Honaker High School. During high school I have witnessed positive as well as negative situations. As a result, those situations have included; unfortunate family and financial situations, bullying others for being different, and different lifestyles. However, the positives have always outweighed the negatives within our school system. Those situations have been; coming together to help people within the community when they are in need, including a new kid on their first day of school so they are not alone, and learning about the other lifestyles in the community. Today I have been asked to speak with you about the topic of creating a positive world if I had unlimited money as well as unlimited time to do so. Accordingly, some people may think the world we live in now is a positive one. However, I disagree to that to an extent. Thus, is why if I had the opportunity to create a positive world this would be it, firstly, I would make safe homes for those who have found themselves in unfortunate situations, secondly, I would have schools for everyone, lastly, I would make sure everyone had a job to support their families and their lifestyles.
To begin with, creating homes for women, children, and families that have found themselves in unfortunate situations is undoubtedly one of the most important solutions for having a positive world to live in. In today’s time there are so many people that have found themselves in unfortunate situations and they are unsure how to get out of them, or if they even can. I want to eliminate that stress for them. After all, I would be designing and creating housing placements for them to reside in. Therefore, the families get to stay together, while the women and children get their own housing. Furthermore, no child will be made to feel like they are unwanted or unloved like some State Homes and Foster Homes in today’s times do. In addition, the babies that need a mother, or a mothers support, will be given to those that are willing, able,and excited to welcome them into their family. As for the women, they will be given their own space away from the men so they are not made uncomfortable. I know some women will be coming from horrible situations involving men and they would not be comfortable or mentally stable to be around other men, especially those they do not know. Therefore, I will be taking away that problem by placing them apart from one another. My goal is to have everyone safe and comfortable.
Building on this, I would create schools within the community for everyone to attend. They would be structured like they are today, however, the functionality would be different. I would make sure they are as safe as could be. Therefore, no harming to one another would be done, or any sexual altercations could happen within or outside the school walls. If the sexual altercations did manage to happen outside the school community the actions of the aggressor would be handled privately, but to the extent for that age limit. Correspondingly, to the harm of others, there will be security at every entrance and exit points doing checks of all the staff, faculty, and student body. There will be bag checks, metal detectors, as well as pat downs if need be for a certain situation. My goal is to make sure everyone is as safe as possible while they expand their education.
On the contrary, I will make sure that everyone of age has a job to support themselves, their families, and their lifestyles. Having a job is one of the most important life skills a person could have. It builds so many skills, relationships, and knowledge in the field. Without a job you can not survive in the economy, you have to have money to pay for things. Hence, why I will make sure everyone has a job to try and get back into the world and workforce. You never know where you will end up in life but you might find your calling with a job placement. Although, you will be able to help pick a job field that you would like to work in. I will not just throw you out into a job you might hate. That would just be miserable and the last thing I want is to make anyone miserable while they are trying to get back on their feet.
To summarize all the information you have taken in today, I have discussed with you how I would make a positive world to live in. Firstly, I would make housing for anyone who found themself in a difficult situation and could not work and live on their own. I would make sure everyone is safe, comfortable, loved, and included in the housing situation. Secondly, I would make a safe school environment for everyone of all ages. I would take every precaution to make sure that you can excel in school without the worry of getting harmed by another person. Lastly, I would make sure that everyone had a job to work to support themselves. Having a job is very important to expand life skills. After all, this is how I would create a very successful and positive world to live and have a family in.
