Reasons For Choosing Sports Management As My Major

To explain my reasons for pursuing Sports Management as a major, it is necessary to discuss both my passion for sports as well as the concept of purpose in relation to my future career. Having played sports since I was a child and now at the collegiate level, I have always had an appreciation and interest in sports. Sports are more than entertainment, they are a passion that is integrated into my character and life. Whether it is playing sports outdoors on the field, of all sports, watching games with family or friends, strategizing and analyzing the teams and players, practicing or just enjoying the disciplined energy sports often generate, sports will always come to me. So, no surprise, of my major choice, is my decision to pursue Sports Management. It is much more than an academic major, it is my first step toward a dream I have longed for forever.

My goal is to work for a professional sports company or organization that grows the business of other aspects of sports. From event planning to marketing, athlete management, to team operations, I have always been interested in how many moving parts it takes to create teams outside of wins and losses. I believe Sports Management will provide me with the tools, knowledge, and experience to come to understand this area.

What is intriguing about being engaged in a field of practice is the notion of being part of something bigger than yourself and being ontologically part of practice. Sports are special in that they allow for the coming together of communities at all levels, especially at a professional level while breaking down barriers of culture, language, and backgrounds. Communities are uplifted and changed through being part of sensory experiences in sports. Being part of a sports organization, means being part of that, and that is what very excites me the most.

Choosing this major speaks to my strengths and interests as well. I enjoy being in leadership situations, finding communication to gain access, ultimately solving for better, all of which is proven to be a part of Sports Management. I am most looking forward to learning about sports marketing, law, and finance, which I believe will prepare me for a industry that can be stiff and competition and I can not wait!

Ultimately, I pursued Sports Management because of my passion for sports but also a purposeful career. I want to have a career that not only excites me and challenges me but engenders a career path that I know will have endless opportunities for growth, and that is my path! I am ready, willing, and able to do the hard work-learning from professionals in the field, and, eventually be my own part of or piece of the team I've admired my whole life.
