Leading In College by Jayden - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

According to dictionary.com, leadership is the action of leading a group of people or an organization. Leading a group of people can result in success throughout college, but asking if this is necessary to college success can be very vague; but it is also easily answered. Leadership skills are not necessary for success but I will show you how it an certainly enhance your college experience.

No matter what career or degree you are planning on pursing, leadership skills are always an asset. The requirement of leadership skills for college success is absolutely not true; however, success throughout college can certainly be enhanced with the ability to lead. Leadership may not give you good grades or help you pass that test, but can make preparing for an exam easier. By being able to gather your friends and study for the test together you can better prepare yourself for tests. Group studying is very common during post-secondary school, and having someone in a group of friends who will step up and bring everyone together not only gives you an advantage, but is a bonus for the people around you.

Aside from being in college, the process of getting into colleges is also increased with leadership. Colleges, specifically Ivy Leagues such as Harvard and Yale, are looking for leaders to attend their prestigious universities. These colleges don’t want students who are going to sit back and watch the world evolve around them; they want students who are going to lead these evolutions. They want students are able to lead an entire company.

While leadership may not be mandatory for success in college, it can certainly improve your chances. Take risks and reach out to classmates for a study session for the next exam. Leading is an exceptional personal quality to have and should be presented with confidence.
