"Where your HEART is!" by Jayda - April 2022 Scholarship Essay
Every month my family and I used to feed the elders. However, a special month was approaching. Thanksgiving! This year we decided to do something different with our meal plan and giving routine. Instead of the normal plates we would give, on Thanksgiving Day, we decided to reserve a building. A building that was enough for about a hundred people to eat and chat, and enjoy their thanksgiving day. We also hand-made a ton of food as we would usually do for thanksgiving but this time made triple the amount. We got in contact with some restaurants to donate some food and drinks, which they did.
We made Thanksgiving Day a day for folks who couldn’t afford a thanksgiving day, didn’t have a family to be with, or just wanted to be around familiar or unfamiliar faces. All of which was one of the reasons we wanted this event to occur. The second reason would be because thanksgiving is a day to give and love and spread kindness. So we added that into the event. On this day, my family and I saw so many happy and satisfied faces. Emotions were just priceless.
What I’ve learned from this event was that no matter the cost of the gift you give, no matter the size of the gift you give, or the number of people who show up to a special event that you planned, when you volunteer to be a part of something great, the only thing that really matters is…
IS YOUR HEART SINCERELY IN THE RIGHT PLACE!
