My Academic Goals by Jaycie - August 2022 Scholarship Essay

An academic goal I have for the upcoming year is to be on the honor roll, get some sort of cord when I graduate, and continue to be involved in all of my extracurricular activities while maintaining good grades. It has never been easy for me to learn in school. Oftentimes I find myself drifting away in my thoughts while in class. I try to listen the best I can and even when I do it still doesn’t come easy.
I’ve never been one of those kids who can just look at the words or do the work once and have it memorized right away. I actually had to put in maximum effort. I remember when I was younger I would sit in the hot tub with my mom at night and study my words. Me and my older brother would always compete to see who could spell the word faster. Sometimes he would let me win but I never knew that.
I used to make the honor roll without a problem but as I got older, classes got harder and there were just more distractions in general. I have tried to find different ways to help me focus but I still continue to stick to the old way of flashcards and quiz-let every night leading up to the test.
