The major I decided to pursue was business, specifically business analytics. I chose business analytics because I enjoy working with data to support continuous improvement. I find using the information at your disposal to lead a business into challenging territory to be empowering and potentially beneficial to communities. I believe I can be an asset to a firm or businesses I would be actively involved with.
My chosen major has potential to benefit society in a myriad of ways. An establishment with effective analysts can improve the direction and value of its company. No matter the size of the entity, there are avenues available to further serve the public. While analysts do not actively dabble in business budgeting, they are responsible for the model in which a business obtains profit. A successful business attracts potential hires who also desire to become successful. Many of those hires begin their journey as students, specifically college students like me. Successful establishments take part in this frequently in the form of scholarships and grants. Instead of using the extra profit generated from an analyst’s plan to improve the business, it can be used to invest in the future generation. Many students, such as I, struggle to secure financial aid to attend college. Aid in the form of scholarships, internships, and grants are an excellent and appreciated way companies can use their influence to assist in helping students reach their educational goals.
One of the cruxes of business analysis is identifying new opportunities. Having the influence of a business analyst not only offer better benefits to the business but the communities that they serve. For example, collaborating with an organization that is heavily involved in improving neglected areas of a city can yield potential consumers, attract new prospects interested in a greater cause, and benefiting the underserved communities. Everyone wins in this scenario and quality of life improves slightly. It becomes a positive feedback loop simply by showing effort in wanting to assist the public in their personal lives. Making the calls and taking the charge for these moves is what this career entails.
The impact a business can have on the communities surrounding it are almost limitless. Foundations and drives for charity can be started off the back of well-equipped establishments. Students, both starting and finishing their education, benefit from aid packages or even opportunities in the form of internships and work-study programs. Employment opportunities are increased no matter the size of the business. While business analysts tend to work behind the scenes, it is their knowledge and leadership that can help a business reach new heights and have a positive change in the lives of its consumers.
