When taking final exams, it can be a stressful time for a lot of people. There are many different methods available for use when it comes to studying for finals. All students are not the same, so what works for you may not work for others. One method that I find useful around exam time is using notecards. I organize my note cards according to subject. On one side of the notecard I may write a definition and on the other side I may write the word to which the definition pertains to. Using notecards helps to ‘burn’ the material in your brain. It also helps reviewing test materials much easier. Also using friends to help you study your notecards is also useful. I normally have a friend to read the definition aloud and I recite the corresponding side of the card or vice versa.
When using notecards, you can get very creative. By creative I mean, you can color-code them and make use of them however you want. I have tried to use many other different types of study methods but none other than using notecards have helped me. Three advantages that I have found when using notecards are: they are easy to carry around, they are an instant quizzing tool, and you can easily sort out the ones you know and don’t know. When using notecards, you can easily have access to test yourself whenever you feel the need to study. I like to study my notecards when there is no one around or when I am in a peaceful environment. Going to places like Starbucks, or nice sit-down places to study can be a great additive to your study habits. Studying using notecards will help you determine whether or not you actually know something as well as you thought you did.
One thing that I like to do with my notecards is to shuffle them a lot. Shuffling helps to learn the material thoroughly. If you were to not shuffle them, then you would most likely just remember the order of the answers than actually learning the answers. Sometimes, instead of watching television or when a show is on commercial, you can easily just pull out your notecards and study them. You can never study too much. When it comes to taking your final exams, you want to make sure you study as much as you can, because finals are usually your biggest and most important grade of the year.
I find notecards to be the best study method. You can study them how you want and make use of them however you want. As long as you just find a method that works for you, you too can be successful when taking your finals.
