Repetition by Jasmine - August 2013 Scholarship Essay
The lessons we learn in school are some of the most valuable we will ever discover in life. One of the most interesting lessons I have learned, has been engraved into my inner thoughts.
As I have studied World History I have learned a profound lesson. This is the destruction humanity brings upon itself. As humans, we create war, violence and grief. This can be seen throughout history in the early times with the wars between the Romans and the Greek to World War II. Although personalities and ideas clash against each other, we destroy the people who are created the same as us. We help each other cause pain and homeland destruction. We are own enemies.
Not only in times of war are we masters of pain and destruction. Rather, in everyday lives we are as well. The values we use to keep our own American government separates us instead of uniting us as a whole. Politics separate us from others who aren’t like-minded. Perhaps the greatest lesson I have learned in school is that as humans, our nature is repetitive. It opened my eyes that this repetitiveness must be changed and I will be one those people who will stand up for change.
