I have been involved in Student Government for over four years. We as a group of students ranging from freshmen to seniors; advocate for the student body and promote school spirit. Over the years we have done multiple activities, that have made positive impacts on the student body.
The first activity is pep assemblies, Student Government plans numerous pep assemblies throughout the year such as homecoming, winter fest, and pride assemblies. During pep assemblies, I am in charge of planning and running the assembly. Our goal for these assemblies is to have students enjoy the assembly while showing school spirit.
Secondly, a volunteer opportunity that I participate in along with Student Government is Michigan State University Concessions. This takes place during basketball and football games. During this volunteer experience we are benefited in many ways. We develop many personal life skills such as being exposed to a college setting, having customer experience, cooking skills, etc. In return for volunteering, money gets put into a Waverly account which donates to school organizations. This allows clubs and organizations to be able to provide different things to benefit their group. Michigan State University Concessions provides students many opportunities they would never be able to experience anywhere else.
In conclusion, we want students to have the best high school experience which means advocating to students that school is more than academics, it's about creating lifetime friendships, developing life skills, and creating memorable events that you will never forget.
