Words To Live By by Jasmine - November 2018 Scholarship Essay

Looking back in my senior year experience, I always think back to my time on the yearbook staff. It was my first year as a staffer and I really wanted to make big contributions to my last yearbook in highschool. All year we struggled with a theme and we finally came across the idea of dictionary theme. We would use one word adjectives as headers with intriguing copies to read. One thing I disliked about the senior section was that we didn't include senior quotes, because it wouldn't fit the theme. I later found out after snooping through past decades yearbooks in the library and seeing the lack of senior quotes disappointed me. It's like it was a tradition not to have senior quotes. For year's I've lived by different quotes and wanted to include my favorite, but I never got the chance. Even though, I'm in college now I still live by one of my favorite quotes I would have liked to see under my name. "A new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book waiting to be written". The famous quote by one of my favorite American author's Melody Beattie is open to all realms of interpretation. For me graduating high school, a closing a chapter filled with memories, growth and self discovery made me who I am today. I look back on my high school years as a learning experience in education, performing arts, relationships and what I wanted my legacy to be when I left high school. Now that I'm in my second year of college closing more chapters of growth and experiences mostly after each semester than oppose to year. This quote represent who I am by having an optimistic outlook on what's ahead for my future. I am reminded each day that I wake up with a new slate and I write the script of what's next for my destiny.
