Black Pride by Jasmine - August 2018 Scholarship Essay

If I had a popular podcast, the topic would have to be about something I am passionate about. Hence, it would be called Black Pride. It would not just consist of the ordeals black people faced during slavery. It would include our history that is not usually taught in middle and high school. Our history before the slave trade is hardly mentioned in a classroom setting. I would also shed light on the horrors of slavery that are not told in detail in school. I would share my opinion on politics and past and current events truthfully and extensively. The civil rights movement, ancient African kingdoms, police brutality, sexism, racism, and colorism would be a few out of many topics I would address. In my podcast, I would give my perspective in a respectful and intelligent way. I would handle touchy subjects with caution and grace.

Additionally, I would share my experience as a young, black girl. I would strive to inspire all my listeners and motivate them to succeed in whatever they want to acheive. Bashing white people would not be the goal of this podcast. The goal would consist of exposing the roots of racism, creating a safe environment for young black individuals, and speaking about the mistreatment shown to minorities. We should all know where we came from, who risked their lives to get us to where we are now, and how to continue that path to equity in society. This podcast would not only be enlightening, but also entertaining, and maybe even revolutionary.
