Saving Lives 2035 by Jasmin - March 2025 Scholarship Essay
As a goal oriented and driven person, I have many small goals that all lead to a larger goal of becoming an anesthesiologist assistant. I want to be in the room where lives are being changed and saved. My educational experiences at Clemson and future education in anesthesia school will help me in reaching this goal; both academic experiences and my personal experiences forming connections.
In ten years, I see myself in my seventh year working as an anesthesiologist assistant. I see myself waking up every day, working with a team of highly skilled, compassionate healthcare professionals to save lives and heal those who need healing. I see myself appreciating the opportunity to change lives daily and never forgetting the magnitude of the work that I am doing. Anesthesia is a field of medicine that I have wanted to work in for a long time now. I love the pace of the job and the skill that it takes to critically think about and come up with the best plan for patients. Working in a team of people who all want the same thing, a positive patient outcome, and putting our knowledge and skills together to make that happen is so exciting to me.
My undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Clemson University is going to help me get there as I have spent the last four years learning about the properties of various chemical elements used in anesthesia. Having this fundamental background in the way that medicine being administered during anesthesia works will help me reach my goals. This chemistry degree is also what has allowed me to get into my anesthesia program which I will be starting in September 2025. The anesthesia program I will be attending will teach me more about human anatomy and how these chemicals react within the body, bringing everything that I have learned in undergrad together. I will also be able to participate in clinical rotations which will allow me to have hands-on experience with patients and administering anesthesia. I will also be able to learn how to think critically, quickly, and on my feet in a medical setting.
Finally, the educational institutions that I have attended have allowed me to form many relationships with peers, professors, and other professionals that have all helped me reach my goals. Whether they have just given me support mentally in a time of need or helped me with school related issues, they have all played a large role in my progress towards my ten-year goal. Connections formed here at my institution have been a tremendous blessing and supported me and my goals. Even just being a Clemson student in general I believe has helped me as I was able to connect with the interviewers for my anesthesia program as a lot of them have some sort of connection to Clemson.
I plan to continue to work hard every day doing something that will support my ten-year goal. This goal is a big one and it has not been an easy journey at all, and I know I have a lot more hard things to overcome. However, I am willing to continue to work towards it and I am so excited for all of the experiences and knowledge I will gain along the way.
