Never Stop Dreaming by Jasmin - June 2017 Scholarship Essay

I have always known the importance of the decisions you make in life, how they will affect your future. My mom defied the odds being a teen mom and she got her high school diploma and shocked them again when she got her college degree. She showed me the only person or thing that can ever stop you from achieving all you can be is you.
For as long as I can remember I was always the kid who loved school, I never wanted to leave. I loved learning I never wanted to stop absorbing all I could. My love for music started when I was just a child, I was always singing around my house I would never stop. When I switched schools my 1st grade year I was scared being the new kid and was the exact opposite of the girl who ran around singing, but the music room was a safe place for me. I dreamed of being a famous singer with adoring fans and making everyone smile with my songs. Even back then I wanted to make some kind of difference in someone's life.
My dreams took a complete 180 instead of being a famous singer I want to be a science teacher. I still carry that little girl who never stopped singing with me every day. All my life I knew that no matter what I ended up doing with my life music would always be apart of it. It has and it will. My majors in college will be Music Education and Science Education. I plan to pursue the science education as my career, but I will use my music career on the side and I hope to have the opportunity to teach music on a college level one day.
My love of school never diminished, not even a little bit, it did the exact opposite and flourished, especially when I got to school and was able to take upper level sciences and choir. I always joke how i’ll will be in school for the rest of my life, but when I think of teaching i'm the happiest I could ever be. That little girl who ran around her house singing never went away she just turned into a young adult casually walking around her house singing. I still want to make a difference and I plan to. I know that if my 6 year old self saw the woman I have become today she would be proud of me and the work that i’ve been do and the work that I will do in the future.
