A Lesson Learned by Jasmin - July 2016 Scholarship Essay
Everyone has a destiny and what they want to be in life. Sometimes you may choose the wrong path to get there but you have to remember that your happiness matters. A lesson that I learned and has stayed with me forever has been about finding yourself first, which way your path will be, and then find love.
I heard this important lesson from my eight grade teacher. Yes, I graduated this year and still will never forget this lesson. He told us like every adult will tell you when you are growing up, "Life is tough." They are correct every time they say this. I thought Mr.Williams was a very smart teacher. He said, "In life there's a simple path to follow." Mr.Williams would always encourage us to do good and go for big things. He said, "You have to know what you are going after in life and know where you want to be and then find love. Not just anyone, but the person that also has the same place in mind to be at in their future like you, then you go there together." He said, "If not, you'll be doing the mistake of finding love first and then figuring out where you want to go in life." I understood how our careers are important, but also thought love was as well, so I sat there questioning it in my head.
Everyone in class looked confused and asked, "Why?" Mr. Williams responded, "You will also learn from other people's mistakes." Then he explained, "I got married before I even knew where I wanted to go and I was married for about 7 years. During my marriage I figured out that I wanted to teach here, but her dream job wasn't where I wanted to be. And like I said you go together to do what you want to do but what she wanted to do wasn't at the same place with me." Don't do those pathways backwards.
No one is saying that love isn't important. But knowing who you want to be in life should come first, finishing your plans and knowing where you want to be set at. Then you find that person that wants to go to the same place, and you accomplish your goals together. I think it's a smart way to line up your path, because it is very true. You can end up seeing all those years to waist.
I always kept this lesson in my head and memory but not only because it's important but because it is a very true guideline to follow in life. I believe that this teacher told us this because he knows we will make mistakes in life, everyone does, but there isn't someone that can tell you about this mistake in life that someone can do. Up to this day, he has been the only person who I have heard say this lesson from. I am thankful for that because it became a lesson that no one can never tell you about.
