Your favorite non-traditional way to learn and current learning outside of school by Jarmarrie - September 2024 Scholarship Essay
My favorite non-traditional way to learn was project-based learning. At my old high school, we focused more on work that would teach us life skills. This meant getting classes that would further our careers, such as woodworking, gardening, bike mechanics, and advocacy skills. At my old school, I worked on bikes, cars, built tables, and benches. I've also participated in doing agriculture and used my voice to change some things around the school. This was all due to my old school being a democratic school, which allowed freedom of speech. If there was ever any type of extracurricular activity that students wanted, we would incorporate them into our classroom teachings. This has allowed me to explore more career paths if I didn't want to do traditional jobs like doctors, lawyers, and government. I am currently searching for community service programs and getting back in touch with nature. I've decided that it was time to give back to my community by doing voluntary services. One organization I've helped before, and am applying for, is Common Ground Relief. It is an organization dedicated to rebuilding wetlands. I've also been doing outdoor activities like riding my bike or just going on nature walks.
