A Better Tomorrow by Janis - August 2015 Scholarship Essay
Schools nowadays are concentrating on subjects that will not benefit students in years to come. Subjects like Algebra 2, Algebra1, and math as a whole, now I understand these subjects are important but only for state testing. Schools are no longer caring about teaching the students something relevant, they just want the highest testing scores.
Going to school used to be a privilege only those with money can go, now students look at it as a punishment. There are AP students crying themselves to sleep because of the work load they have, students who try there hardest and are still getting c’s feel like failures, and more students are deciding not to go to college because they can’t deal with that stress again.
If schools were to add classes that helped their students, for example a class on how to budget money and fill out W-4's or checks, a class teaching students kids how to handle huge life decisions and stress, or even a class on how to pick the perfect college/career choice. If schools were to open their eyes and see how much unnecessary stress they are throwing at their students, and find ways to help the future generation will no doubt be stronger and smarter.
