The Ideal Classroom by Janessa - October 2014 Scholarship Essay
In the past years I have spent in school, I have noticed a common trend among students my age. Most children, me included, do not pay attention in class unless the teacher and/or lesson is interesting. I believe that a tool to help make a class interesting is technology. Today, technology is a major part of any young student's life. In my opinion, the ideal classroom incorporates the use of technology into the lesson.
There are many different ways technology can change the atmosphere of a classroom. One simple application of technology can be done when teachers make power points. Some of the worst lessons I remember from high school were when my teacher just hit the next button of a power point. There was nothing that caught my eye and kept my attention. Even if there are ridiculous animations and sounds added to the slideshow, it has a better chance of sticking with students because of its absurdity.
Another way to incorporate technology is by having students take part in interactive quizzes. In some class, throughout a lesson, teachers can ask their students to sync to the lesson and answer questions at random checkpoints. This also helps ensure that students do not lose focus in class. As an added bonus, teachers can award extra credit points for correct answers. This will give students extra incentives to pay attention in class.
