A Door Worth Fighting For by Janelle - July 2019 Scholarship Essay

Since I was an infant, I was always told how great I could become and the greatness I could achieve once I matured into the young adult I am today. I was told how much passion I had. In those moments in time, however, I never thought much of or understood how these words truly had significant meaning, especially in how people viewed me or how I viewed myself. It was through my passion for education that I understood that the potential people saw in me, even at birth, was something that has come into play and developed ever since I began my first day of school. It was through this passion that this special potential in me has developed and grew to the point that I am at today. It is because of this growth through education that I obtained the stern belief that passion is the doorway to purpose which is what all people, including myself, are here for.
Now that I have approached a time where the doorway of purpose for higher education is nearer than ever before, the reality of the need for funding has made it seem as if that door is at the top of a steep stairway, and locked. I am the oldest of 4 children and though my parents are very hard workers, who have never failed in providing for me; I am very aware that college expenses are higher than what our middle class family can afford. Receiving scholarships from any available source would ignite how my passion for education gives me the boost to climb the steps to that doorway and unlock the door to my academic future.
