Creative Expression by Jamie - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

Almost every academic subject has a set proper way to do assignments; there is always a right and wrong. The one class, however, where this is not the case is visual arts. Art class allows students to express creativity and go beyond strict methods and parameters. Art has no right and wrong; instead, it gives students the freedom of choice. Sure, core academic subjects teach you necessary skills for future success, but where is the creativity in math or the freedom of choice in history? Students are able to make their own decisions in art, just like functioning adults would make their own decisions in the real world. Art education is overlooked; every student needs to experience the creative outlet visual arts provides, which is why I would be most passionate taking the role as an art teacher.
At my school I am the Vice President of art club and co-founder/Vice President of my school's National Art Honors Society. Even the students who believed they had no artistic talent whatsoever in these organizations have been able to discover new paths to creativity. My art teacher has always encouraged all of her students to think outside the box and create work from their heart. She does not judge the students on the artistic ability, but instead on their passion for their pieces. Ms. Gaimari is everything I would strive to be as an art teacher. Art education and involvement also opens doors to many service opportunities such as charity art auctions and beautifying the community. Art surround us everywhere we go so an art education would enhance student's appreciation for it. Anyone is capable of creating art because art has no limits. Find your passion. Create your version of art. Express your creativity. Be your own kind of artist.
