One piece of advice I would give a incoming high school freshman. by James - November 2014 Scholarship Essay
My one piece of advice for new freshmen in high school would be to remember that everything counts. From your first day of high school, to the last day of your senior year, students are under continuous testing and not just academically. There are good and bad influences in everything from study habits to friendships. Each decision made based on good or bad influence can have profound effects on the future.
For instance, if a friend decides to skip class, you now face a test. This test is not an academic test, but a test of your knowledge about yourself. The decision to skip class or stay seems easy to make. But in truth it is a very precious. If you stay you, receive ridicule from your friend but will be better prepared for your studies. If you decide to skip, you will possibly fall behind in class. The decision is yours to make. But when making the decision remember that everything counts. If you skip, the class you will be counted as absent. And that is the best-case scenario. You could miss valuable information, you could get caught and suffer serious consequences, like suspension, which would not only damage a great but count in your transcripts, and damage her future. If you attend class, you'll increase the knowledge for the course material. Enter counted present, and increase your future in college, and even in scholarship possibilities.
Each and every decision you make for good or bad, through your entire high school career counts. In the long run, they all add up and offer a total picture of you, to colleges, scholarships, employers, family and friends. The futures is yours to make, and from injury in high school to the end of your life everything counts, so make it count for something that benefits you and all those around you.
